We were in awe of the Central Food Hall at PCM.  There is a limitless array of amazing culinary delights to try.  Click this {link} to see the directory in the Central Food Hall.

We definitely loved our cappuccinos from Spiller Park Coffee.

The Mercury: website provides this description, “Welcome to The Mercury, a cocktail focused, classic American eatery located in Ponce City Market, Atlanta, Georgia. Inspired by the culture of the 1960’s, The Mercury promises well crafted American cocktails and cuisine, inspired by the relaxed glamour of Mid-Century American culture. Chef Mike Blydenstein’s menu will feature a raw bar, chops and steaks, and perfectly-executed classic American entrees. Julian Goglia will curate a full service bar program rooted in approachability and familiarity updated with modern technique, house made ingredients and premium spirits.”

After a wonderful time exploring all of the Ponce City Market we headed downtown… We wanted to ride the SkyView Atlanta, but it had a very lengthy line… should have made a reservation.

IMG_2189

Sunday brunch was a must at Murphy’s in the Virginia Highland’s area… It was wonderful and we highly recommend it.

IMG_2192

The cappuccino and the fresh made biscotti was something to relish!!!

IMG_2193

I wanted to pop into the Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit… also in the Virginia Highland’s area.

IMG_2194

On Monday we headed to Turner Field for a San Francisco Giants vs the Atlanta Braves game.  We had an awesome time there.  We were so glad to be able to go to a game here since it will be the last season.  We saw what the new home of the Atlanta Braves, SunTrust Park, is going to look like and we can’t wait to see a game there.

IMG_2206

After the game, we headed back downtown and went to the Georgia Aquarium… we had a blast!  My favorite part was the penguins… So adorable!

IMG_2239

We had such an amazing time trying to see as much of Atlanta as possible.  The people, the food, the shopping and the historical aspects were something that we will never forgot.  I cannot wait until we have another opportunity to go back!IMG_2180 (1)

The first time I ever saw a Chihuly art installation was at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.  I was overwhelmed by the beauty and the size.  At that point, I became an instant admirer of Chihuly’s work.

Gone with the Wind is one of my favorite movies… ever since then, Atlanta has been on the top of my must travel to list.

Atlanta is a 6+ hour drive from our home and only having a 3 day weekend it made sense to fly.  My husband and I flew on Delta Airlines out of Daytona Beach International Airport for the first time.  The flight was less than an hour and a half.  Flying from Daytona Beach was the easiest flight experience we have ever had.  It was an absolute delight.  I do have to say it was pretty cool seeing the Daytona International Speedway from the airport terminal.

Once we landed in Atlanta, we rented a car and excitedly drove off to explore.  We headed to the Westside Provisions District to grab a bite and check it out.

First stop was Star Provisions for breakfast and COFFEE!  The choices of deliciously baked items were endless!  It was definitely a treat to dine there.

Breakfast and Coffee at Star Provisions

After breakfast we walked around the Westside Provisions District.  There are so many unique shops and restaurants.  To mention a few… {Ann Mashburn, Billy Reid, Calypso St. Barth, Free People, J. Crew, Roberta Roller Rabbit, Sid Mashburn, Atlanta MADE, Brick + Mortar Pop-Up, Bungalow Classic, Room & Board…}.  We could have spent our whole weekend there and I wouldn’t have been disappointed at all!

Before leaving that area, of course we had to stop in and have a doughnut at Sublime!  Sublime was on the Food Network and the Cooking Channel…..so, to me, that was a direct order to go and give it a taste!  Being from Florida, I had to try the Orange Dream Star!  It was amazing!

After spending a great morning in Westside Provisions District, we headed off to Buckhead for sightseeing and shopping.

I love home and garden shops, so we stopped in at Boxwoods.  It was so lovely and charming.  I definitely gathered great inspiration for our future decorating and gardening of our home.

Boxwoods

Boxwoods – Home and Garden shop

Half a mile away was our next stop….We both love history and historical sites, which means that we had to stop by the Swan House at Atlanta History Center.  It did not disappoint!  It was the home of the Inman family circa 1930’s.  It was also used as a location during the filming of Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  The Swan House is absolutely beautiful inside and outside.  The gardens are gorgeous and serene.  You can also stop by the Swan Coach House.  The Swan Coach House is a quintessential southern beauty.  It would be a lovely spot to have lunch.

After we visited the Swan House we headed out to do a little shopping, less than a mile away, at the Shops Buckhead Atlanta… and low and behold, there was a Georgetown Cupcake shop!  How in the world did that happen!!!  To date, these are the best cupcakes we have ever eaten!!!  That happens to say a lot since we have a penchant towards cupcakes.

Then….. we stopped in a most splendid store – Hermès

And I picked up a little something that I have been wanting for quite some time… if you go, you must ask for Cesar!

After our morning and afternoon of running around the Westside Provisions District and Buckhead we headed downtown Atlanta to check into our hotel.  We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown right on Baker Street.  We had a wonderful time staying there.  It is walking distance to so many iconic places such as the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca Cola, CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and the Underground Atlanta just to name a few.

After we settled into our room, we went to Inman Park to check out Krog Street Market.  It was so interesting checking out all of the dining and retail “shops”.  I loved the building which is a warehouse from the 1920’s. It was a very chill environment.  Definitely a local’s hangout.  My husband loved the Hop City Craft Beer & Wine shop as you can see…

We finished the night off with specially crafted cocktails, the Hootchy Cider Punch and the Yankee Dollar at the Ticonderoga Club.  We love that place!  The owners are fantastic!

That was DAY 1.  Stay tuned for 2 more future posts…. there was so much that I had to create 3 posts for our trip to Atlanta… and that was cutting it down.

The next post with be about our beautiful visit to the Atlanta Botanical Garden for the Chihuly in the Garden exhibition.

This past spring, I completed the Iron Girl® Half Marathon in Clearwater, Florida.  It was such a wonderful experience.  I really enjoy participating in events that, and I quote from their website, “aspires to bring women of all ages together as a community by offering a supportive, energetic and empowering environment for females pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle.”  Love! Love! Love!

This was my first time participating in an Iron Girl event and I will tell you this, it will not be the last time!  I can’t wait to sign up for next year.

We live in Central Florida and it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to Clearwater so we decided to stay the night.  We drove down on Saturday morning and it was just an extremely beautiful day.  When we arrived in Tampa we stopped for lunch at Square 1 since the hubby was craving a burger.  The BarBQue Bacon Burger to be exact.  Their food is awesome!  Trying to be careful of my pre-race diet I chose their yummy Cobb Salad.

Then it was off to the Iron Girl® Expo to pick up my race packet.  It was held in Coachman Park which is right in the Clearwater Harbor Marina.  It was such a nice expo with amazing views!  Here’s a link to all the vendors at the expo {link}.

After the expo, we walked down to the marina which was just a few steps away.  We went to the Pierce Street Market which is right there on the marina.  Lots of great people, food and goodies to buy!

After strolling through the market we headed to our hotel to check in, which was only a mile away.  We stayed at the Residence Inn® by Marriott® in Downtown Clearwater, Florida.  Iron Girl worked out a special rate with the Residence Inn®.  We stayed in a studio with a rate of $209, however with the taxes/fees the exact total of the room was $240.45.  We loved the studio which had tons of room and a KITCHEN!!!!  This made me very happy since I have to make my race day breakfast.  We also loved the location only being a mile from the start/finish line.

After we got everything settled in at the hotel, we headed over to Clearwater Beach…over the bridge we go…  We had dinner at Salt Cracker Fish Camp and it was delish!!!  We loved the food, the ambiance and the staff.

After dinner we walked right over to the beach to relax and soak up the most amazing sunset that Clearwater is FAMOUS for!

They were setting up for the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival… So great!

Up and at ’em!  My husband dropped me off right in front of Coachman Park and I walked right down to the start line just a few minutes before the start of the race.   Yep!  That’s right, I said just a FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE.  It is the easiest half marathon race I have ever gone to.  The logistics of this race are fantastic!!! I was relaxed and ready to completely concentrate on my race that lay ahead of me.

Once the race was over, we went back to our hotel got cleaned up and checked out.  We stopped in Tampa on our way back home and had a delicious brunch at Green Lemon in SoHo!  It was AMAZING!!!!  I highly recommend going to Green Lemon in SoHo!  We loved the food and the atmosphere.  Very chill and relaxed!

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear –

I wanted to share with all of you a wonderful event that I went to at ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear, which is located in Altamonte Springs, Florida. {Right by Whole Foods}.

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

ballball™ is a new shop that is geared to the yoga, fitness and activewear community.  They are the first-of-its-kind to offer the largest volume and variety of yoga-centric activewear brands and gear in the United States.  This concept is extremely interesting to me as you typically only see a store that offers just their own line of clothing.

A list of just a sample of the brands that they carry at ballball™:

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

John, the owner, is extremely involved with every aspect of ballball™.  It shows from the variety of brands that are offered in the store, his experience as a yoga instructor and also how evolved he is with the community.  They host Barrier to None donation-based yoga practices.  These classes are for everyone, from first timers to people who would like to continue to advance in their practice with a 75-minute class.  ballball™ opens early for private shopping for class participants.  You can visit  ballballshop.com and like them on Facebook for the current event schedule.

We were treated to to a 45-min yoga class that was instructed by Nicole from Sweetwater Yoga & Fitness.  She was amazing!

Before our yoga class started, we were set up with our own yoga mat that fit our needs.  I was very impressed with their Yoga Mat testing center and selection.  As you can see in the picture below, they have over 20 different mats that you can try right there in the store.

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

I was so inspired to meet Travis Strote.  He is also very involved with ballball™.  He collaborates with local companies and artists that share the vision of excellence in yoga, activewear and athleisure clothing.  Travis spoke about a joint athleisure venture that he and Haley Byfield will be debuting this spring.  It’s called Yogavated™.  Each limited-edition line features original designs that showcase unique meanings, symbolism and expression.  Yogavated™ connects art and practice with fashion.  I saw on their Instagram page the definition of Yogavated: Motivated + Yoga.  Provides (someone) with a motivation for doing Yogic Activities.  The Act of Motivating One’s Inner Artist.  The Art of Motivation.

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

These are some of the goodies that I bought, on the left is the Body Glove Tip Top Tank.  “It’s a fitted tank, seamless for ultimate comfort, moisture-wicking, breathable fabric, racer back for better range of motion”.  On the right is the Body Glove Haleiwa Burnout Tank.  Woohoo! I love them both!

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

I can’t wait for my Growth Yogavated™ pants to come in!  The meaning behind Growth is “Advice from a tree… Remember your roots, stand tall and proud, go out on a limb, be content with your natural beauty, drink plenty of water, grow and enjoy the view.  Let the  roots plant you firmly in your practice and the limbs push your poses to new limits, new growths.” Amazing!  I connected to that immediately!  I love them!  I will definitely IG them when I get them!

ballball™ Yoga Gear & Activewear

I am extremely thrilled that such a wonderful company has opened in Central Florida.  ballball™ seems to be a community source that will build relationships with everyone that stops in.  I definitely encourage you to stop in, spend some time and connect to a great team!

I wanted to share our Weekend Fun: March 5-6, 2016 with you.  We had a wonderful weekend.

Orlando Best Damn Race - 10k Weekend Fun: March 5-6, 2016

                           Orlando BDR – 10k

After the BDR 10k, we stopped by our old neighborhood for breakfast.  We tried The Metro Diner for the first time and I must say we will be going back.  I was fantastic!  When the waiter tells you that they were showcased on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives  you know you are in for a treat.  The Mr. opted for a sweet breakfast which is shown below called the Yo Hala on the Square, which from the menu description states:  “Two thick slices of challah bread stuffed with a mixture of bananas, brown sugar, cream cheese and hazelnut syrup, prepared like French toast. Topped with a blueberry strawberry compote!”  It was ridiculous.  I opted for the savory, Crab Cake Benedict and it was so delicious!

In the afternoon, we headed back out to the Orlando Home & Garden Show.  We attending the Q&A session with Jeff Lewis from Bravo’s Flipping Out.  He was awesome!  So informative, energetic and inspiring.  Loved him!

8th Annual Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

I recently ran in the 8th Annual Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend.  I found it very challenging and exhilarating.  I find so much joy in spending time with like-minded people when it comes to such a healthy endeavor.  I felt that I gave everything I could in the two races – the Disney Glass Slipper Challenge {Disney Princess Enchanted 10k Disney Princess Half Marathon} and left with so much encouragement and motivation.

The weekend begins with packet pick up and I am always so excited to go to the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex– that’s when the feeling gets REALLY REAL.  The energy is so electric.

After the packet pickup we headed to our hotel for the weekend.  This is the first time I have stayed on Disney property.  The Hilton Bonnet Creek – which is a Walt Disney World Good Neighbor Hotel, was a fantastic choice!

I researched nearby hotels for the Princess weekend and Hilton Bonnet Creek won me over.

They have special offers for all of the runDisney races called Marathon Weekends.

Here are some of the highlights from their website {link above}:

  • Complimentary bus transportation to and from Half/Full Marathons
  • Carb-Load Pasta Dinner options
  • Personalized assistance from their Runner’s Concierge
  • Complimentary snacks and beverages before the races!
  • Encouragement & recognition from their Marathon cheerleaders…even at 3 am!
  • A Welcome Runner’s Amenity
  • Special rate on accommodations exclusive to marathon runners
  • A 2 pm late check-out time
  • 10% food & beverage savings card to be used during your stay
  • Special group rates for 10 or more guest rooms per night

I’m not sure how many of you are signed up for the Hilton Honors Rewards Program, but I have been a member since 2010 and I highly recommend it.

I was able to book the hotel reservation, check-in and the digital key to the room was delivered right to my phone via their app from the Apple’s App Store before I even walked on property.  I didn’t even have to go to the front desk.  To me that is luxury!  Their app also is available for Android App on Goggle Play.

We got up to our room and settled in for a bit then headed downstairs for dinner at Zeta Bar® & Sushi Lounge – It was so delicious!

After dinner, we took a walk around the hotel and checked out the pool.  We were looking forward to relaxing at the pool after the 10k on Saturday.  Their pool is styled like a lagoon that features a Lazy river and zero-entry.  They also have private cabanas you can rent for a 1/2 or whole day.  Their websites states that their Orlando family resort pool area was named #1 by TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Fantastic Pools. We agree!

After the Enchanted 10k, on Saturday, we went back to the hotel and feasted on the expansive breakfast buffet, which included,a Charcuterie Bar, at Harvest Bistro.   Then we were off to explore the newly redesigned Disney Springs.

There are so many great shops at Disney Springs!  We had a great time just popping in.  I really like The Marketplace Co-Op.  They have really beautiful items in there even create your own phone cover.  I definitely love going into Fit2Run to see their new items, especially the Stella McCartney line with Adidas.  I can’t forget that I had to stop at Disney’s Candy Cauldron to get my coveted caramel apple.  Also, they have the most beautiful Starbucks I’ve ever seen called Starbucks Reserve.

We had lunch at The Boathouse® at Disney Springs.  We had a friendly table next to us share the most delicious dessert called the Gibsons S’mores Baked Alaska – better have at least 4 people share because it is nearly 2 feet tall!  I also loved all of the Chris Craft boat memorabilia.  They even had a table made out of a Chris Craft!

Later that night we had dinner back at the hotel at the  Harvest Bistro.  They had a special “runner’s menu”.  I delightfully indulged in their Rigatoni Turkey Bolognese.

Then for a tasty treat on our way back to our room, we stopped at Muse for a sweet treat.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend.  It was exactly what my soul needed.

I can’t wait for the 9th Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend!

This was an exceptional day.  An extremely big thank you to Hyatt Orlando Regency for having us, the Central Florida Lady Bloggers, as well as Meghan from Meghan on the Move.  I count my blessings for not only loving where I call home and the hard working people of Orlando, but also for the time I spent with the beautifully, talented ladies of our group.  I love leaving an event feeling rejuvenated and inspired and this is how I felt!  I recommend spending time here as a out of state visitor and especially if you are a local.

ME STRONG is a local charitable organization here in central Florida that, as their website describes, is “dedicated to supporting the friends, families and individuals battling cancer”.  I met Linda Ryan at a friend’s baby shower two years ago and her smile lit up the entire room.  I spoke with her and was amazed and inspired by her story.  She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the summer of 2011 a few weeks after completing her first marathon.  Linda’s friends got together and decided to organize a 5k in the fall of 2011 to honor her and also support her during her battle with cancer.  This was when ME STRONG was born.  “ME STRONG continues to grow  and host a variety of types of events across the country. “The ME STRONG Community believes in spreading happiness by supporting individuals battling cancer through health, laughter and friendship.” {quote via ME STRONG website}  I admire their passion to help others.  I also learned that ME STRONG has given over $250,000 away since 2012!

Also through my friend I met another amazing woman, her name is Jennifer Crowley.  She has put her heart and soul into raising money and awareness for ME STRONG and has already raised over $13,000 through the Evening in Honor events.  This past year she completed the runDisney’s Dopey Challenge, which on their website states is, “four days of fun for a total of 48.6 miles… Participants will run the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon.”  Yep, she did all four races, totaling 4 days and 48.6 miles to help raise money for ME STRONG!  Jennifer will run the Dopey Challenger again this January 2016 and Linda will be completing the half marathon.  Their goal is to raise over $20,000 during this event.
